Karl Voit studied Telematics at Graz University of Technology. He worked in the automotive industry and led an IT department before wroting a PhD at Graz University of Technology in the field of Personal Information Management. After leaving academia, he was co-responsible for a large software product and worked as a technical Consultant in the fashion industry (RFID). Currently, Karl Voit is responsible for IT security as well as compliance for a large service for the German health system.

In his spare time, Karl Voit shares his knowledge through blogging about technical topics such as Personal Information Management, IT security as well as free and open software products like the GNU Emacs with Org-mode. He has given numerous lectures, workshops and made several contributions to scientific topic in the national radio broadcast station. He was invited guest for radio contributions, panel discussions and podcasts. His expertise in Personal Information Management has also led him to hold lectures at St. Pölten University of Applied Science and Graz University of Technology.

Karl Voit is dedicated to promoting ethical digital culture in events around Graz, where he holds executive positions in "graz.social - Association for the Promotion of Ethical Digital Culture" and "Association for the Promotion of Digital Typesetting."

Karl Voit hat an der Technischen Universität Graz Telematik studiert. Er hat in der Automobilindustrie gearbeitet, leitete eine IT-Abteilung, schrieb an der TU Graz eine Dissertation im Bereich Personal Information Management, war im Produktmanagement eines großen Softwareprodukts mitverantwortlich, arbeitete als technischer Consultant in der Fashion-Industrie (RFID) und kümmert sich aktuell um die IT Sicherheit als auch Compliance beim Betrieb eines wichtigen Dienstes in der deutschen Gesundheitstelematik.

In seiner Freizeit bloggt Karl Voit über technische Dinge wie Personal Information Management, IT Security als auch über freie Softwareprodukte wie den GNU Emacs mit Org-mode. Dazu hält er zahlreiche Vorträge, Workshop, ist mehrfach geladener Gast bei Radiobeiträgen, Podiumsdiskussionen und Podcasts. Für das Thema Personal Information Management hat er auch bereits einige Vorlesungen an der FH St. Pölten oder an der TU Graz gehalten.

Er engagierte sich für Veranstaltungen in und rund um Graz und ist im Vorstand von "graz.social - Verein zur Förderung ethischer Digitalkultur" als auch bei "Verein zur Förderung von digitalem Textsatz".

From 1994 to 2003 I was studying Telematics at Graz University of Technology and I specialized on Pervasive Computing (nowadays it would be called mobile computing) at IST and IT Security at the world-famous IAIK.

I worked at Graz University of Technology on my PhD thesis in the field of Personal Information Management (PIM; with specialization for local file management) from 2009 to 2012.

After leaving academia, I continued working on PIM topics in my spare time, writing tools and blogging about it on this web page (which I programmed myself) which reaches a large group of people all over the world. As of 2023-09 the access figures are 19,000-26,000 daily hits, 1,700-2,900 daily visits which translates to roughly 600,000-800,000 monthly hits and 53,000-87,000 monthly visits. I consider this a very successful situation for a personal web page without any monetarization/advertisement, frequently posted new content or effort invested in search engine optimization (SEO).

I'm a well-known person in the local community of Grazer Linuxtage (Linuxdays Graz) and in the global community of PIM-interested people, GNU Emacs and Org-mode.
