On Not Using Tags for Categorizing Blog Articles of a Series

Show Sidebar

I started to write articles that I embraced in "Blog Series" such as, for example, the one on bad design decisions.

A probably obvious choice would have been to introduce tags for each series which could be used to link and find articles of these series. I decided not to. On purpose. And this is why.

In my opinion, a tag such as "designdecisions" does not qualify as a tag since tags should be general and not related to a series of blog articles that are finished after a couple of weeks or months.

I try to limit or even reduce the number of tags used on this blog. The more tags you use, the less use you get out of it. See also my recommendations for tagging in this talk.

So if you want to locate articles from a series, search for or navigate to the series introduction article where you get a very nice overview with links to all articles of that series.
