http://www.fujitsu-siemens.com/Resources/119/1070390836.jpg" Presenting solutions are an interesting subjects these days: after mika tested Kensington Wireless Presenter and my test of Logitech Cordless 2.4GHz Presenter and mikas addendum, I found a Fujitsu Siemens Presenter Mouse PM1200 in our company that was shipped for free with the latest FuSi-notebooks we ordered.
**In short: nice but not as perfect as the Logitech-thingy :-)
----
Features:
- Optical Wireless Mouse with 2.4GHz USB-dongle
- one wheel, three buttons
- 1200dpi sensor
- automatic power down when USB-dongle is inserted in the mouse (parking position)
- soft want-to-be-leather case
- switch for selecting three modes:
- "sound level mode"
- mouse mode
- presenting mode
- 2xAAA batteries (included)
- Driver-CD for Windows XP and Vista (not tested)
- on/off switch at the bottom
The mouse is not very good to hold in presenting mode: you have to use the thumb to navigate and for laser pointer. When you use the other fingers to navigate, you only can hold a couple of centimeters which is uncomfortably: the button for the laser pointer is approx. in the middle of the mouse where the normal mouse buttons for slide navigation are on the top as usual.
Microsoft Windows XP Pro
Mouse mode
When I plug in the USB-dongle, the mouse gets recognised as any other wireless mouse and works out of the box. It is pretty sensitive and you have to get used to this "mouse resolution".
Sound level mode
When in sound level mode, the mouse wheel controls the system volume and the mouse buttons do nothing.
Presentation mode
Laser pointer is active and can be accessed when pressing on the "mode level switch".
MS Powerpoint 2007
The mouse wheel and the left/right buttons navigate through the slides. The middle button (on the wheel) starts the presenting mode of Powerpoint.
Foxit Reader v2.3
The mouse wheel and the left/right buttons navigate through the slides. The middle button (on the wheel) does nothing.
Adobe Reader v8.1.2
The mouse wheel and the left/right buttons navigate through the slides. The middle button (on the wheel) does nothing.
OpenOffice.org Impress v2.4.0
The mouse wheel and the left/right buttons navigate through the slides. The middle button (on the wheel) starts the presenting mode of Impress.
Apple Mac OS X v10.4 (Update1)
Mouse mode
When I plug in the USB-dongle, there is a dialog for identifying the new keyboard. After pressing the buttons for a while the dialog ends with the message that the keyboard could not be identified. In the following dialog, I chose "ISO (European)" standard keyboard and so far, everything is fine with that.
Sound level mode
When in sound level mode, the mouse wheel controls the system volume and the mouse buttons do nothing.
Presentation mode
Laser pointer is active and can be accessed when pressing on the "mode level switch".
Apple Keynote v2.0.2
The mouse wheel and the left/right buttons navigate through the slides. The middle button (on the wheel) does nothing.
