[[id:2020-03-18-demo-filetags-setup][Quick Setup Instructions]] ------------------------ Now that we have some file names with beautiful date- and time-stamps, we are appending more information to the file names with [[https://github.com/novoid/appendfilename][appendfilename]]. #+BEGIN_HTML Screencast showing some features of appendfilename #+END_HTML What is shown: 1. *A file gets selected and "appendfilename" is invoked* from the "Send to" context menu. - There is a pop-up window where the user is able to enter some text. - The string "- Trattoria" is appended to the file name for the lunch menu. 2. *Multiple files* are selected and *"appendfilename" is invoked* from the "Send to" context menu. - The string "Project X" is appended to the marked files. 3. Some photographs gets selected and *more text appended* to their file names. - This demonstrates the fact that, e.g., adding meaningful names to your photo collection, can be done very easily. Yes of course, you may rename the file name using standard methods. I do prefer =appendfilename= for adding the same string to multiple files. Furthermore, with this tool, I don't have to manually position the input cursor within the file name, making sure not to "hurt" tags used or break the file extension. Not shown here: - You can use =TAB=-completion within the pop-up window. It is populated with every word of the existing file names of the same folder. This way, you don't have to enter words that you have already used here. Next: [[id:2020-03-18-demo-filetags-tagging][Tagging files]]
