the inevitable legal notes.

How to pronounce my name according to the [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Phonetic_Alphabet][IPA]] standard: [[http://ipa-reader.xyz/?text=kaʁl][kaʁl]] [[http://ipa-reader.xyz/?text=foɪt][foɪt]].
I've learned to work with computers but now my business is to talk
with people about computers and other people. Currently, my business
topics are related to public health data, IT security and standard
compliance. However, this page does not cover my business life.
Some people call me a geek. Some call me a freak. I like to see me as
a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life_hacking][life hacker]] trying to make deliberate decisions on every aspect of
life. And this requires [[id:tags-pim][constantly reflecting and re-thinking of
common patterns]]: Why are we doing things the way we do things? Are
there better work-flows, tools? Or do we still need to do this?
On this web log, I write articles about topics like [[id:tags-pim][PIM]], [[id:tags-security][IT security]],
[[id:tags-philosophy][philosophy]], [[id:tags-graz][Graz]], [[http://wikitravel.org/en/Austria][Austria]], [[id:tags-privacy][privacy]], technology ([[id:tags-emacs][Emacs]], [[http://orgmode.org][Org-mode]],
Android, GNU/Linux, Open Source, ...), sports, usability, [[http://LaTeX.TUGraz.at][LaTeX]],
[[id:tags-decentralization][decentralization]], [[id:tags-quantifiedself][Quantified Self]], and so forth.
You can also find me via =@publicvoit@karl-voit.at= on Mastodon. My [[https://twitter.com/n0v0id][Twitter-account]] is dead starting with 2022-12-16.

*** public voit
Everything on this web site reflects my personal opinion. This is my
private place to publish stuff that matters to me.
*Please do read [[id:2017-01-03-how-to-use-this-blog][my tips on using this blog efficiently]]* in order to
get the best user experience using this blog.
You might as well be interested in checking out [[id:2014-01-30-public-voit-beta][the first announcement]]
of lazyblorg from early 2014. There, I also explained the term "public
voit" and how to pronounce it.
*** Colophon
I use [[id:tags-emacs][GNU/Emacs]] to write my blog text in [[http://orgmode.org][Org-mode]] markup. My Org-mode
files are processed with [[id:tags-lazyblorg][lazyblorg]] to generate the static HTML5/CSS3
version for the web page you are reading now. You only need to
activate JavaScript in your browser if you want to comment via Disqus
or read the Disqus comments.
Whenever you see a π-symbol in the upper right corner, you can find a
link to the Org-mode source of the current page. This way you get an
impression how easy it is for me to write a blog article.
As a geek, I wrote lazyblorg by myself because I could not find any
other blogging system that suited my particular set of
requirements. Please refer to the README.org on [[https://github.com/novoid/lazyblorg][lazyblorg on github]] for
further information on the blog software.
As part of my desire to [[id:tags-decentralization][decentralize]] personal information (not
depending on [[id:2016-11-12-cloud][the cloud]], a bit of [[id:tags-privacy][privacy]], ...) I plan to use lazyblorg
and public voit to [[id:2017-02-24-cloud-dependencies][completely replace facebook, flickr, Twitter,
delicious, and more cloud-based services in future]].
Wish me luck. :-)
*** Privacy in General and General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in Particular
:PROPERTIES:
:END:
As of 2018-05-25, [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GDPR][the GDPR]] is mandatory within the EU. Here is my
statement for it and the things I do or do not use in order to defend
your [[id:tags-privacy][privacy]].
This blog is not using [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_cookie][Cookies]]. No need for activating them for my
domain.
Furthermore, my blog is not using any active content like [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javascript][JavaScript]]
except for two things. You are able to activate the optional [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disqus][Disqus]]
comment section snippets I include from external source with
JavaScript. For searching my blog, you most probably want to activate
the optional JavaScript for [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duckduckgo][Duckduckgo]] whose snippet I am including on
each page.
Sometimes, I include [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter#Tweets][Tweets]] or [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Youtube][YouTube]] using their provided HTML
snippets. This way, you are going to see things they include
themselves in their snippets not only but also to track you. You
should be able to browse and read my pages with disabling their
services if you want. Take a look at [[id:apps-I-am-using][this page]] on my current
recommendations for browser anti-ad and anti-tracking add-ons.
The web server stores your [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ip_address][IP address]] for the usual error debugging
purposes and my personal access statistics. I am using [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Webalizer][Webalizer]] in
order to analyze web traffic which isn't public. This analysis summary
does not list your IP address at all except your host is within the
ten to thirty top client with regard to page access or bytes
transferred. Usually, no IP address of a single individual is listed
here and I personally really don't care about single IPs. And even
then, your IP address does not get published anywhere or given to any
third party.
Further nore, my blog does *not* use any of the following things:
- [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tracking_pixel][Tracking pixels]]
- [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_analytics][Google analytics]] or any other third party analytics cloud service
- Third party [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_font][web fonts]]
- Newsletter nag stuff
- Any type of plug-ins or add-ons (besides Disqus and DuckDuckGo mentioned above)
- Social Sharing Buttons
- Advertisement
Not using those things also optimizes the speed of my blog.
As you have read above in the colophon, I have written this blog
software myself and therefore I pretty much know what gets transmitted
to your browser and what not except for (optional) third-party HTML
snippets from YouTube or Twitter you might block using mentioned
browser add-ons.
Therefore, you should be "safe" by surfing through my blog pages in
terms of not being tracked or spied on. For a maximum of privacy, use
the [[https://www.torproject.org/projects/torbrowser.html.en][Tor Browser bundle]] to access my blog.

Links to pages outside of my own domain are not under my control. They
do not necessarily reflect my personal opinion. They may change their
content any time. Everybody that thinks that I could influence these
facts is either st••id or a lawyer. ;-)
I am using links to Wikipedia to offer a general overview and a
starting point for your own research related to the linked term.
