** DONE «public voit» goes public! :software:lazyblorg:blog: CLOSED: [2014-01-30 Thu 17:19] :PROPERTIES: :CREATED: [2014-01-30 Thu 16:22] :ID: 2014-01-30-public-voit-beta :END: :LOGBOOK: - State "DONE" from "STARTED" [2014-01-30 Thu 17:19] :END: Well, it is out as a [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beta_version#Beta][beta version]]. :-) This is my new blog. This will be my new blog. This is about its technical status and my plans for the future. *** About the Name :PROPERTIES: :END: To contrast my old blog system (which was called "Suderei") I chose a different name now: "public voit". You may want to pronounce it like a combination of "f" (like in "freedom") followed by "oit" (like in "exploit"). It's a pun on the famous key words of the two most important programming languages: [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C%2B%2B][C++]] and [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_%28programming_language%29][Java]]. Both, by the way, not preferred by me. In those languages, you type "public void" in order to expose a functionality to other methods ("public") which does not return any specific value ("void"). As you already know, my family name is Voit. There, you see the pun. The expression "public voit" can therefore be interpreted as something from Voit which is made public. Or that "voit" is public itself. Go on, find even more interpretations by yourself. :-) *** What's so Special? :PROPERTIES: :END: As you might already know, I am a huge fan of GNU/Emacs [[http://orgmode.org][Org-mode]]. It enables me to organize very simple and also very complex workflows like todo management, project management, contact management, reference database, notes, reminders, [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quantified_Self][quantified self]] stuff, and so on. Since my old blog ("Suderei") went offline, I had to find something else. However, meanwhile I got very lazy and very pragmatic. Therefore, [[http://article.gmane.org/gmane.emacs.orgmode/49747/][I wanted to blog with a *minimum* effort]]. No blog system was providing me this to an extent that matched my requirements. If you can't find it on the market, go do it yourself. Voilà, I did a lot of brainstorming and came up with [[https://github.com/novoid/lazyblorg][lazyblorg]]. It's still in development but I wanted to go public with real data in order to find issues soon enough. Therefore, *this blog is not finished yet*! *** What I will be Adding in the Future :PROPERTIES: :END: You will see that this blog gets a fancy *CSS* styling and cool layout. In order to get information from my blog to your system (push, not pull) I will add multiple [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rss][*RSS*]]-feeds for all kinds of situations and requirements. My blog entries gets fancy *tags* describing its contents. The most important tags will get their own page describing its purpose and handling by me. This way you will get an impression what I mean by using a particular tag. Some tags will be derived completely automatically: *auto-tags* will describe the language used (German or English) or the approximate length of the blog entry (I will try to say goodbye to delicious or Twitter). The blog system itself will be re-factored to make it the best system to support me. Everything will be made [[https://github.com/novoid/lazyblorg][public on github]]. I try to document it as much as possible. However, I am afraid that lazyblorg will mainly stay *a works-for-me solution* because I tend to integrate it into my personal workflows you probably will not want to use such as indirect referencing time-stamped image files though my [[https://github.com/novoid/Memacs][memacs]] [[https://github.com/novoid/Memacs/blob/master/docs/memacs_filenametimestamps.org][index of file-names]]. This system will never contain a complete Org-mode syntax parser. I try to keep it on a minimum and support only a few Org-mode elements I need to do blogging. There will be *persistent pages* for the main page, FAQs, colophon, and much more. Of course. And those pages will replace my current (very antique) home page as well. For my temporal blog entries, there will be *overview pages* for years, months, and days allowing navigation within my blog archive. In the far future, I probably try to *convert my old Suderei blog articles* to Org-mode. Unfortunately, this is much and boring work so do not expect fast results there. Something I would like to add are *visitor comments*. This blog system is using static HTML5/CSS pages and I want to keep it that way. Therefore, I will try out external solutions like [[http://disqus.com/][Disqus]]. Although I am not very happy about using another cloud-based service that will be gone some day. *** Stay in Touch :PROPERTIES: :END: So stay tuned and do not wonder when the pages change their visual look and feel. If you want to get updates, please [[http://tinyurl.com/n0v0id][follow me on Twitter]]: I will tweet about new blog articles. Please do not get irritated: I will also publish blog articles I wrote in the past - where my old blog was already dead and "public voit" was not born yet. There is great stuff in the pipeline! :-)
